Gâmbia/ President Barrow Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment at National Innovation Summit

(ANG) – His Excellency President Adama Barrow has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to placing youth empowerment at the heart of The Gambia’s national development agenda, describing young people as the country’s greatest asset and key drivers of future progress.

Speaking at the official opening of the National Youth Innovation Summit on Saturday 25th July 2026, President Barrow congratulated the organisers for bringing together young Gambians from across the country to exchange ideas, showcase innovation, and inspire solutions to national challenges.

The President paid tribute to the resilience, creativity, and determination of Gambian youth, commending young farmers, entrepreneurs, teachers, software developers, artists, and volunteers whose contributions continue to positively impact their communities.

He noted that the summit reflects the government’s vision of creating an environment where young people are empowered to innovate, lead, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

President Barrow highlighted his administration’s continued investment in education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), infrastructure, electricity, and digital connectivity as key pillars for expanding opportunities for young people. He said these investments are being implemented under the National Development Plan “Yiriwa,” which prioritises skills development, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and the creation of decent employment opportunities.

According to the President, the government’s development agenda seeks to equip young Gambians with the knowledge and practical skills required to thrive in an increasingly digital and competitive global economy.

He also called on the private sector and development partners to strengthen their collaboration with government by investing in youth-led initiatives that promote innovation, enterprise, and sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing the young participants, President Barrow encouraged them to remain confident in their abilities, embrace skills acquisition, use technology responsibly, and continue to uphold the peace and stability that are essential for national development.

He stressed that innovation, hard work, and patriotism are critical ingredients for building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

The President expressed confidence that, with the right support and determination, Gambian youth will continue to play a leading role in driving the country’s transformation and advancing a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous society.

The National Youth Innovation Summit 2026 brought together young innovators, entrepreneurs, students, policymakers, development partners, and private sector representatives to discuss innovative solutions, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and youth participation in national development. The summit serves as a platform to promote collaboration, inspire innovation, and strengthen youth leadership in shaping The Gambia’s future.
